The Spanish government, for its part, wanted to send a very clear message to Núñez Feijoó and his party, and that is to respect the constitution, because “compliance with it is non-negotiable”.

The PP has offered to renew the composition of the General Council for the Judiciary with the applicable regulations and has set a number of conditions for this: the withdrawal for Thursday of the Council reform to renew the Constitutional Court, agreed by Pedro Sánchez’s government with the ERC, and a future law to change the electoral model based on the judges’ proposal.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo’s party sent the Spanish government on Monday a proposal for the renewal and reform of the judiciary, announced at a press conference by the Deputy Secretary for Institutional Affairs, Esteban Gonzalez Ponswho has argued that after three years of blockade, simply changing members of the CGPJ with a “secret pact” would make judicial independence “even more questionable”.
In its initiative, the PP proposes that the Public Prosecutor should not be in politics in the five years prior to his appointment, that members’ negotiations in Congress should be between the groups, not between the government and a party, and that “the new Council elected in accordance with the law in force shall propose a new electoral model within six months”.
For its part, the spokesman for the Spanish government, Elizabeth Rodriguezhas insisted that the PP adhere to the constitution for the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and that Alberto Núñez Feijoó’s party must do before he starts speaking.
For example, Isabel Rodríguez spoke out at the press conference after the Council of Ministers after being asked about the PP’s offer.
The spokeswoman for the executive branch has assured that she was not aware of the proposal, but while waiting to find out more about it, she wanted to send a very clear message to Núñez Feijoó and his party and that is to comply with the Constitution because “compliance is non-negotiable”. “So before you start talking, you have to stick to it,” Rodríguez claimed.
