The bloody act at a school of Graz shocked Austria. Mayor Elke Kahr (KPö) spoke in a first reaction of a “terrible tragedy”. All domestic agreements were canceled.
Kahr was on stage late Tuesday morning. At least ten dead, including the alleged perpetrator, are confirmed. Many injuries were taken to a hospital.
“All operational organizations act carefully,” said Kahr. Some children and teachers have since been taken to the Helmut-List-Halle in Graz. Family reunions take place in the Askö Hall. Employees of the crisis intervention teams are deployed.
Kahr asked that the lessons should take place in the coming days, “but the substance is not in the foreground”. “This must be controlled first. That makes us all busy. There must be time to process it.”
Governor Mario Konasek (FPö) was shocked: “It is incredible what happened in Graz today. As a Governor of Styria and as a father I am deeply affected by this crazy fact that so much disaster and incredible suffering have brought.”
Kunaseek is constantly in exchange with the Minister of the Interior, the members of the state government and the State Police. “As soon as there is safe information, we will continue to inform. I have canceled my dates in the Ennstal and headed for the affected school.” A press conference with federal Chancellor Christian Stocker is planned at 3 p.m.
All agreements were canceled in parties at the federal level. Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) and Minister of Education Christoph Wegenskrei (Neos) also immediately broke into Graz after the crime became known. The mayor of Vienna was one of the first politicians to turn to the public.

“Graz’s news shakes me deeply. My deepest sympathy applies to the victims, their families and everyone who is now experiencing immeasurable suffering,” said the social -democrat on the platform X. A society must be society, especially at such moments. “Hate and violence should never get the upper hand. Our answer to this must be all the more dedication to cohesion and respect.”
The most important diplomat of Austria also found emotional words: “It is not tangible and unbearable. My sympathy and my grief are among the victims and their family members. Nobody can suffer, as the mother of three children it tears my heart.”
