In the People’s Party of Salzburg there will be an official transfer on Saturday and therefore also a generation change: at the ÖVP State Congress, Karoline Edtstadler is appointed chairman of the State Party. She still follows Capitator Wilfried Haslauer.
In the coming Wednesday, Edtstadler will also be elected to government in the state parliament. In fact, the 44-year-old should have been officially lifted to party leadership on 13 June, but after the murderous Spree in Graz, the ÖVP postponed the event with a good two weeks. In addition, Edtstadler, as managing chairman, has been sending the fortunes of the Black Salzburg since 1 February. But that “only” about the decision of the party manager. The ÖVP basis will also confirm the ex-minister of party leadership on the state congress.
Karoline Edtstadler receives a deputy as chairman: deputy governor Stefan Schnöll (37), who was actually meant as number 1, but not used at the beginning of the year for family reasons, the former community organization for the state of Mödlhammer (73), the Vice National Youth, Maximilian Aignig.
Staff already changes on the first day of the office
The executive chairman has already moved within the party with the takeover of the position: exactly on the day of her inaugure, the club chairman in the State Parliament, Wolfgang Mayer, dealt with his position as the general secretary of the Staatspartij, a position that Haslauer had created especially for him.
“It was important for me that there were clear structures within the party. There was an internal process here, where the wishes and suggestions from the officials came. I wanted to set an accent right away,” said Edtstadler. Instead, she used the mayor of Goldegger Hannes Rainer as political director to “also stretch her arms to the district parties”.
Second governor in the history of Salzburg
Wilfried Haslauer took over the ÖVP Salzburg in 2004 when the then governor Franz Schausberger did the election of the State Parliament and, with Gabi Burgstaller, became a woman for the first time and for the first time a social -democrat from Salzburg. As a result, Haslauer was able to lead the fully torn party again and after nine years and the financial scandal in 2013 to lead again to the strongest political power of the country.
On Wednesday 2 July, Haslauer will now also hand over the position of Governor at the top of the party, which he held for twelve years – as long as his father with the same name (1977 to 1989). With Edtstadler, for the second time in the history of the country, a woman is moving to the Chiemseehof head office.
