The US Open will be distributed more than 60 million dollars in prizes for the first time in its history, with an increase of 2.5 million dollars compared to last year, the US Tennis Federation (USTA) reported in a statement on Thursday.
The 2022 edition of the US Open will be the richest in prize money, after the USTA accepted a proposal from the ATP and WTA player councils.
Tournament champions in the men’s and women’s categories will win $2.6 million each, while the finalists will walk away with $1.3 million.
However, the most significant increase was registered in the prizes of the first rounds, which will be 80,000 dollars for the first in the main draw and 121,000 for the second.
These numbers increase respectively to 85% and 57% of the prizes distributed in 2016, according to data provided by the USTA.
Of this 60 million dollars, 6.26 will be distributed in the qualifying rounds, increasing the data from 2016 by 223%, when the total prize was 1.94 million dollars.
The winner of the final round of the qualifying tournament will walk away with $44,000.
In the main draw, the semifinalist will win $705,000, while the quarterfinalists will receive $445,000.
