Austrian Marco Haller won the Cyclassic’s reduced sprint

Haller was the fastest of the advancing five who reached the finish line ten seconds ahead of the first group. The Belgian Wout Van Aert and Quinten Hermans had to escort the Austrian to the podium, while the Colombian Jhonatan Narváez remained just outside the box of honor, fourth.

The Waseberg, climbed three times, is the only orographic difficulty on the 204.7 km route.

The sun escape was managed by the French Anthony Lullien, the Dutch Ide Schelling and the Italian Jacopo Mosca.

The Dutchman is alone in the lead with 23 km to go. Others were reduced by a platoon pulled by Jumbo Visma and in which Van Aert, Florian Senechal and Mikkel Bjerg jumped, but the group’s law was stronger.

Van Aert and Narvaez they tried it 13 km from the finish, on the last climb to Wasenberg (900 meters at 7.3 average slope). They were joined by Konrad, Hermans, and then Haller. Hunting him, the Italians Alberto Bettiol and Viviani, who had to give up 10 km from the finish line, taking refuge in the small group that came from behind.

The Hamburg classic, which in 16 of its 24 previous editions was resolved in a massive sprint, did not have the most frequent outcome this time, as the leading quintet reached the finish line outstanding.
