The Italian Yemaneberhan Crippa, of Ethiopian descent, was crowned champion of 10,000 meters of the European Championships in Munich by imposing himself alone on a brand of 27:46.13in a race in which two Spaniards, the Leonese, participated Roberto Alaiz and Juan Antonio ‘Chiki’ Pérez, fourteenth and seventeenthrespectively.
Due to the disqualification, one of the main favorites, the Belgian, was left out of the race Issac Kimelitenth at the last Eugene World Cup, where he was the only European in the top ten.
With Kimeli gone, the way was cleared for a duel between Crippa and Frenchman Jimmy Gressier, eleventh in Eugene and arriving in Munich ready to stand up for the win. He started first, pulling the group in the first laps, but in the main moment the Italian showed more resistance to the changes in speed, reaching the finish line alone.
Gressier he crashed on that last lap and, from afar, watched as Norwegian Zerei Kbrom Mezngi took silver and his compatriot Yann Schrub the bronze.
The Spaniards had no chance and, despite resisting the pace of the main group in the first few laps, they were far from medal options.
The lion is Robert Alaiz, fifth at the European Championships in Zurich 2014, is back to wear the national team shirt for the second time in seven years after overcoming an ordeal with injuries. The first was the European Cup in Pacé (France) in May this year. In Munich he was fourteenth with 28:14.86, 27 seconds from bronze.
The athlete from Ciudad Real Juan Antonio ‘Chiki’ Perezat 33 years old, will not repeat the ninth place from four years ago in Berlin 2018. In Munich he was seventeenth with 28:38.21.
