The French Marc Sarreau (AG2R Citroën) was built this Tuesday as the first leader of the Tour Poitou – Charentes in New Aquitaine (France) and in Spanish Jon Aberasturi (Trek-Sagafredo) was placed in fifth position.
The first stage, won by Sarreau by winning the final sprint with a time of 4:16:56, consisted of a route of 193.1 km, from Chauray to Périgny.
It was fairly even and up to 112 runners entered at the same time, including 21 Spaniards. The most famous was the Basque Jon Aberasturi who came in fifth place at the finish line.
Belgian Edward Theuns (Trek-Sagafredo) and Frenchman Lorrenzo Manzin (Total Energies) completed the podium.
The second stage will take place this Wednesday, with a route of 195.5 km from Périgny to Vars.
