Rain postponed a cautious day for Jon Rahm at the Tour Championship

Date:

The weather prevented the third day from being completed this Saturday at the Tour Championshipkeeping North American Scottie Scheffler at the top when he plays hole number 12 and shows his card with par for the course and sees himself seriously threatened by other candidates.

His traveling companion this Saturday, the Californian Xander Schauffele also picked up his bag with six holes to finish and just one shot from Scottie. It was a day of contrasts for him, with four birdies early on the course, but was punished by three bogeys on holes 4, 5 and 11.

The battle between Scheffler and Schauffele grew in excitement as more golfers posted positive rounds on Day 3 and put the pressure on their match.

The performance of South Korean Sungjoau Im (-16), Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy (-15) is noteworthy. and the American Justin Thomas (-14).

The juicy prize of 18 million dollars for the winner had many candidates, although starting from the privileged position that the world number one Scottie Scheffler has, allows him to compete without showing his best version.

Sungjae Im completed four holes of true fantasy between five and eight, completing three birdies and an eagle. Undoubtedly, the South Korean was the best this Saturday.

At five strokes under par for the field, Rory McIlroy closed out the day. Birdies on 2, 3, 8 and 13 along with an eagle on 6 put him one step closer to lifting his third PGA Championship title, the last one in 2019.

Justin Thomas got the suspension facing the final ‘green’. He won’t have much of a breakdown on Sunday morning, which, along with his good performance on Saturday, makes him a strong candidate.

The American already knows what it means to be runner-up in this tournament and is considered among the candidates after signing a card with six birdies in the first 17 holes.

Among these chasers for Sunday’s final victory are Jon Rahm, five strokes behind Scheffler, with five birdies and four bogeys on his Saturday card and five holes left to finish the course.

The one from Barrika has added one under par for the course and will be looking to maintain his comeback after the break in the 22 and a half holes he has to play.

It wasn’t Rahm’s best day with the driver. This is appreciated on holes 7 and 8, in addition to the tee on the last hole before the suspension, when he leaves the ball to the right of the fairway, from there he should continue to hole 14 this Sunday.

Among the day’s best was Austrian Sepp Straka (-14) with six shots under par who made 68 strokes both Thursday and Friday. Also Japanese Hideki Matsuyama (-13), who managed to finish before the suspension with seven shots under par.

North Americans filled the privileged positions Patrick Cantlay (-14), Tom Hoge (-12) and Max Homa (-12).

The Chilean Joaquín Niemann (-14) entered the top ten of the standings, and while deciding whether or not to participate in LIV Golf, he showed many irregularities on the third day of this PGA Tour Championship.

Excellent first part of the course with four birdiesbut was severely punished with three bogeys, two of them on the final holes.

The threat of an electrical storm conditioned the day at East Lake Golf Club, forcing the organization to start an hour later and postpone the completion of Sunday’s third round.

Action resumes at 3:45 pm Spanish peninsular time and, once completed, the start of the final round will be scheduled to allow sufficient rest time for the golfers.
