There is now a start date for the historic collective agreement establishing equal pay between women’s and men’s soccer teams in the US. After years of negotiations, it will be officially signed on September 6 at an event organized at the end of the match between the United States and Nigeria in Washington, the US Soccer Federation (USSF) reported on Friday.
The Washington Audi Field will host a historic event. The US Women’s National Team Players Association (USWNTPA) and their national team counterparts will sign the new CBA on the same pitch.
The USSF announcement came at Women’s Equality Day, which is celebrated in the United States on August 26 to commemorate the ratification in 1920 of the 19th amendment, which established the right to vote for women.
The USSF president, Cindy Parlow, and several members of Congress participated in that effort, the USSF reported, without providing more details about the participants.
The USSF and the players’ associations of the US national teams reached a historic agreement on May 18 for a new collective agreement that achieves equal pay.
The The USSF guarantees “equal pay through equal economic terms“, as reported in an official statement, and thus became the first federation to match the prizes for participation in the World Cup for both women’s and men’s teams.
The collective agreements will be in force until 2028 and include “equal compensation for all competitions including the FIFA World Cup and the introduction of a common mechanism to share all commercial revenues of both teams.”
