Infantino describes 2022 Costa Rica Women’s World Cup as a “victory”

Date:

The President of FIFA, Giani Infantino, this Sunday described the Women’s U20 World Cup in Costa Rica 2022, which concludes this Sunday with the final between Spain and Japan, as a “victory” and a “show”.

“I know it will be a success and after seeing this show we are very happy and content and we want to celebrate the return of youth soccer to this wonderful country,” Infantino said at a press conference in Costa Rica.

The FIFA president is in the Central American country where he inaugurated a training field at the facilities of the Costa Rican Football Federation and at the end of the day he will attend the World Cup final between Spain and Japan at the San José National Stadium.

“We worked together as a football team to win this game, which was a very difficult game because it was the first World Cup we organized after the pandemic and it was very important to be successful,” said Infantino.

The FIFA president emphasized that throughout the World Cup almost 200,000 fans attended the stadiums and that 120 million people around the world had the opportunity to watch the matches.

“The world is in Costa Rica. Costa Rica and San José are the capital of the soccer world today. Everyone is here with a smile, with happiness, with a heart full of joy and that is thanks to the great work of the Costa Rican federation, of the Government and everyone who helped make this World Cup a complete success,” he said.

Infantino added that this World Cup “has been truly wonderful for the country, for all of Central America, for Concacaf, but also for the whole world.”

This is the second FIFA World Cup organized by Costa Rica after the 2014 U17 women’s tournament, where the final was also played by Spain and Japan.
