Leclerc’s race was ruined by a Verstappen visor protection

Date:

Max Verstappen started 14th at the Belgian GP and ended up winning. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc started from 15th place, just behind the Dutchman, but finished in 6th position. The Monegasque driver wanted to clarify after the race that this result was not ‘real’, as his performance was affected by something that happened at the start of the event.

Charles he climbed back to ninth before the ‘Safety Car’ came on the second lap. just behind Verstappen, which gained several positions, up to eighth place. But since then, his recovery of race positions has not gone as fast as Max. According to Charles and the team ferrari, all due to a ‘tear-off’ (helmet visor protector) thrown by the Dutchman when he was just in front of the Monegasque in the early stages of the event. In this bad luck ‘tear’ it got stuck in a sensitive part of Leclerc’s car.

x.setAttribute(“charset”, “utf-8”);
$(“.twitter-tweet”).closest( “span” ).append(x);
});

Leclerc confirmed that this element remained in the brake line and caused the brakes to overheat because the ‘tear’ air is not allowed to enter the brake disc. But that’s not all. According to Charles, this caused his subsequent penalty which cost him a position against Alonso because that fact caused a sensor to fail and this caused him to exceed the speed limits of the pit lane at the end of the appointment a km / h.

“P9 on Lap 1 then and then a brake tear causing the right front brake to overheat. I had to stop to remove it from the brake (he stopped using the ‘Safety Car’), I moved up to 5th position and I received a 5 second penalty for speeding in the pit lane due to a burnt sensor from the first problem. Good day!”Leclerc wrote on Twitter.

Apparently, Verstappen avoided the ‘tear-off’ due to the dirt created by the contact between Alonso and Hamilton on the first lap.

It is not known what Leclerc could have achieved at the Belgian GP under normal conditions, considering that he was riding a new, more powerful Ferrari engine.

“I hope the tears are not mine,” Verstappen said at the end of the appointment. But it is. Max accidentally injures a title competitor.
