Benfica became the new leader of the Portuguese League on Tuesdayafter defeating Paços de Ferreira (3-2) at Da Luz in a pending match equivalent to matchday 3.
The ‘eagles’ team has achieved a complete victory (four out of four) at the start of the Portuguese championship and leads the standings with 12 points, two more than Braga and three above Porto, who stumbled at the weekend, and Portimonense.
Paços de Ferreira scored firstin the 40th minute, a goal by Ivorian Koffi which was the first goal conceded by Benfica this season.
But the group, led by Roger Schmidt, reacted and took the lead before the break. Brazilian striker David Neres leveled and opened his Liga scoring account, and before the break Joao Mario converted a penalty.
Already in the second half, Benfica extended their lead thanks to a goal from Gonçalo Ramos. Koffi scored again, in the 81st minute, and added emotion to the match, but Paços de Ferreira was unable to deny the Lisbon team victory.
