The athlete from Albacete Severino Felipe, ‘Seve’, He will make his debut in the senior category with the Spanish Athletics Team at the age of 47 in the 50 km European Championship.
This was confirmed by the International Federation of the specialty through a circular, with the pre-selection of athletes who will represent all the national teams in the 50 km Continental Championship that will be held in Sotillo de la Adrada (Ávila).
For the athlete from La Mancha, who defines himself as a “worker in athletics”, this internationality represents a “prize for a whole sports career”, always defending the colors of the Albacete Athletics Club , a squad from his hometown.
Felipe declared to EFE that this call meant “fulfilling his dream since he was young, which any athlete has” and to promote that, even though he did it “unexpectedly, at the age of 47”, he feels it as “a reward for perseverance and patience”.
As for the competition, he hopes “to be lucky and have a good European Championship, although I know it will be very difficult to win an individual medal”, he admitted.
However, he said he was part of a Spanish team he described as “very strong” where “we dreamed of achieving a metal as a team”.
Felipe was named runner-up to Spain in the 50 km absolute championship held in Santander on June 12, 2021, a fact that allowed him to obtain the minimum score to attend the World Cup in Taipei.
‘Seve’ Felipe, one of the best athletes in the history of Albacete, also has a bronze medal in the Spanish Marathon Championship held in 2014 in San Sebastián.
In addition, he holds the current Spanish Marathon record for athletes over 45 years old and has won many road races, some of them of international stature such as the Edinburgh Half Marathon and the Amsterdam Half Marathon.
