There’s Hegerberg is back in style. The Lyon striker scored a hat-trick on his return to the Lyon national team Norway for the first time since 2017. The player was instrumental in beating Kosovo 5-1 in the tie for World Cup on Thursday, as Sweden humiliated Georgia 15-0 in Tbilisi.
Despite the strong wind and snow, Hegerberg received a warm welcome when he entered the pitch for Norway after an absence of 1,719 days, and within 21 minutes he had scored, converting from a cross from Caroline Graham Hansen.
Two minutes later, he scored again, taking advantage of Julie Blakstad’s pass and midfielder Frida Maanum scored a third before the break.
Norway received their first goal of the season when Ereleta Memeti scored early in the second half, but Hegerberg scored his third goal late in the game to the delight of 4,759 spectators who dared to time to see his return.
It was replaced by Celin Bizet Ildushoey in the 76th minute, and scored from a penalty Hansen for a great performance from Norway. Fans look forward to Euro 2022 in July, where they will meet Northern Ireland, host England and Austria.
Norway leads their World Cup qualifying group with 19 points from seven games, three ahead of Belgium.
Sweden had no mercy on Georgia, as 10 different players put on the scoreboard 15-goal thrashing to their hosts, with Filippa Angeldal who scored a hat-trick in the first half.
The Swedes lead group A of the standings with 18 points. On a good night for the Nordic countries, Iceland took the top spot in Group C with a 5-0 victory over Belarus.
