Marquez doesn’t forget to ride MotoGP

Date:

The Spanish rider reunites with his Honda on the first day of the Misano test and completes 39 laps with a good feeling and a very competitive pace

At 9.45am Marc Márquez got on the MotoGP Honda RC213V to complete his first laps with a MotoGP machine, exactly one hundred days after his last race at Mugello. Then he boarded a plane to Minnesota to have his fourth surgery on his right arm. Now he looks optimistically to his return date for the competition and is getting closer and closer, although now is not the time to be in a hurry.

“One thing is doing a test, that’s four laps and stop, four laps and stop, and the other is a whole race. Today I wouldn’t finish a whole race over 27 laps,” said the Cervera driver when asked about his chances of competing in the next Aragon Grand Prix.

He took to the track with a well-defined work plan beforehand: morning driving only and with a limit of 40 laps. For example, the test was divided into seven batches of 6-7 rounds each and the day ended with 39 rounds. His best time was 1’32.395, just over a second behind the fastest of the day Pecco Bagnaia and six tenths of his teammate Pol Espargaró.

More than respectable times for the eight-time world champion, who made the following comparison about his reunion with the motorcycle: “It’s like starting skiing in the winter. On the first descent you get stiffer and little by little looser, but you don’t forget to ride a motorbike». Some statements that came with a smile from ear to ear.

The time Marquez spent on the track saw him in a natural stance, not as forced as a few months ago when he had a 34-degree rotation in his right humerus. This allows him to ride in a more aggressive manner, with a very recognizable style on the bike. He still lacks strength in his arm and he noticed that especially in the right corners, where he always left a few tenths. But everything is normal. Let’s not forget that he barely managed to complete two weeks of training in the gym, plus the two previous days that he rode a street bike on a track. He confirmed that he will also participate in the second and final day of testing on Wednesday. And then? “We’ll see how the arm reacts at the weekend and if it makes sense to go to Aragon”
