The Danish Cycling Federation expressed dissatisfaction with the rejection of Jonas Vingegaard, winner of the Tour de Franceto participate in the next one World Cups that will take place in Wollongong (Australia) from September 18 to 25.
Vingegaard, 25, has not competed since the Tour and announced his decision to focus on preparing with his team, Jumbo Visma, the Italian classics in October, especially Il Lombardía, which will take place on the 8th of that month
This decision was not well received by the Danish Federation and its technical director, Morten Bennekou.
“We don’t understand and we wonder why Vingegaard is not joining the national team. He came in sub’23, so we don’t understand why he is not joining now,” they indicated from the federative entity.
According to the Federation, the success of the team “does not depend on Jonas Vingegaard, but”, they added, “we want him to be in Australia”.
“The national team is in constant discussion with his team, but we have no means of pressure, we cannot force anything. We would accept it if Jonas did not want, was not allowed or did not go to the team, but Jonas himself did not. give any reason for its cancellation”, according to the head of the Danish Federation.
