Cedric Itten, Dan Ndoye, Denis Zakaria and Fabian Frei feature prominently in Swiss coach Murat Yakin’s call-up for the Nations League matches against Spain and the Czech Republic, to be played on September 24 and 27.
For Itten and Zakaria, after long injuries, this is the first call-up this year, as well as for youngster Ndoye, 21, who has yet to make his senior team debut despite being called up in September 2021 against Italy in a qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup.
Valencian player Eray Cömert also appears on the call.
“Against Spain, with self-confidence”
Regarding the commitments against Spain and the Czech Republic, Yakin did not hesitate to confirm that the wish is for Switzerland to stay in League A, where “two first-level performances are needed, no experiments.” Without these two games, Switzerland is at the bottom of group 2 with 3 points behind Spain (8), Portugal (7) and the Czech Republic (4). The last part of the group will be recorded in League B.
“We can travel to Spain with a lot of self-confidence because against them we showed in the second half (in the 1-0 loss in June) that we can put pressure on them. We just have to score goals. Then, hopefully, there will be of the final against the Czech Republic. We want to do better than when we lost in the beginning,” added Yakin.
