Acosta, sixth in free practice, looks “competitive”

Aldeguer finishes eighth after a Friday where he went from less to more and was marked by Márquez’s return to MotoGP

Good feelings for Pedro Acosta and Fermín Aldeguer, the two Murcian riders competing in the Moto2 World Championship, in their first contact with the Aragón GP, which takes place this weekend at the Alcañiz (Teruel) circuit. The man from Mazarrón finished sixth, while the one from La Ñora on a Friday in which he finished more or less eighth. Aldeguer set the third fastest time in Moto2 FP1, a session in which Acosta only finished 11th until he finished fourth with a great lap on a very interesting morning.

In FP2, already in the afternoon, equality remained the dominant trend and everything was resolved in the final minutes of free practice. It was very difficult for the pilots in the afternoon to approach the times of the morning. Probably because there was a headwind and most of them were working at the race pace with worn tires. Of course, in the latter part of FP2, with less gas and new ‘tyres’, things would change.

So it would only be in the last few bars that the time set in the morning by Augusto Fernández, Acosta’s teammate and championship leader, would be improved. The first and only one to achieve this was Arón Canet (1:52.852 seconds). Almost at the same time, Aldeguer would in extremis save a corkscrew fall in one of his last attempts. It is Canet’s sixth practice of the year, followed by Augusto Fernández and Alonso López next. August. Pedro Acosta would finish sixth, Albert Arenas seventh and Fermín Aldeguer eighth.

“I see myself prepared and I feel like I’ve been competitive. Improving the ‘quality’ of tomorrow [por hoy] we can be quite competitive in the race on Sunday,” Acosta said at the end of the day. Today, with the official training sessions, the real serious work begins in Alcañiz.

In MotoGP, the news of the day was the return of Marc Márquez, more than 100 days after his fourth surgery on his arm, humerus and right shoulder. And he was among the best. He finished eighth and showed a determination and solvency that surprised none of his opponents. “I still only have a 1% chance of getting on the podium. I did a few laps and I stopped. The race is 23 laps, we’ll see how it goes, I hope to be smart and understand when to stop forcing and settle for what I get,” explained the driver from Lleida.
