The captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team, Sergi Bruguera pointed out, after his team’s second day loss against Canada that he would not be surprised if a victory for Canada or Serbia would benefit him in the co-starring clash this Saturday, as he assured that the important thing is to prepare well to beat South Korea on Sunday and thus enter the Final Phase.
“I won’t make any predictions, because it’s not up to me. Let’s focus on what depends on us, I will prepare my team as much as possible to think only about the win on Sunday. Carlos (Alcaraz) with a day off and one more day playing here will be one hundred percent for Sunday,” he explained.
Asked about this second day, where Spain saw how victory eluded them after Félix Auger-Aliassime’s comebacks against Alcaraz and the doubles, the Spanish coach pointed out that “it was tennis and especially the Davis Cup, all the matches had an incredible level of tennis And I can only congratulate my team for the effort they made”.
Pointing to the match of Alcaraz, who played his first match at this stage after arriving on Tuesday from New York where he won the US Open, Bruguera had only words of thanks for the player.
“We must thank Carlos for the incredible effort he has made and his commitment is incredible. He played a very good game but Aliassime played one of the best games of his life and maybe he lacked a little mental freshness and still didn’t get the feeling on the court”, he concluded.
