Manchester United caretaker Ralf Rangnick called Erik Ten Hag a “top manager” on Friday because of speculation that the Ajax boss will manage the Old Trafford side next season.
Rangnick, who has coached United since December 2021 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was removed, declined to comment on rumors that Ten Hag is the team’s next manager but confirmed the candidates are of high quality.
“What I know from the managers the club has spoken to is that they are the best and if Erik Ten Hag is included in that, that is also the case for him,” Rangnick said at a news conference.
Meanwhile, Rangnick should try to qualify Manchester United for the next Champions League. So far, his team is 7th in the Premier League, three points behind Tottenham, who are in 4th place, last classified for the Champions League, and Arsenal, with a game in hand.
Rangnick admitted, before traveling to play this Saturday at Everton, that his team is currently not at the desired level: only two have won their last eight Premier League games.
“We reach it (the level) sometimes, but not regularly enough,” he admitted. “We worked hard in training this week, now it’s up to us to translate the new aggressiveness into competition.”
Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed the match against Leicester due to illness, is back against Everton. Instead, Luke Shaw was at least three weeks old due to a foot injury.
