Coveted Kuol made a splash on debut for Australia

Date:

Central Coast Mariners striker Garang Kuol caused a sensation this Sunday on his debut for Australia, in a 0-2 win over New Zealand in Auckland, when he became, at 18 years and 10 days, the youngest debutant in the ‘socceroos’ team since Harry Kewell, who he did in 17 on April 24, 1996. Kuol is interested in several clubs, including Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund. Australia practiced for the 2022 Qatar World Cup in this friendly against the New Zealanders.

Kuol, the sixth youngest to make his ‘socceroos’ debut, replaced Marco Tilio in the 73rd minute and was key to Australia’s second goal, with a run from across midfield, in the play that resulted in a penalty converted by fellow debutant Jason Cummings (also a Central Coast player) in the 80′. Kuol was born in South Sudan and came to Australia as a refugee.

Edinburgh-born Cummings, 27, has played two games for Scotlandbut when it comes to friendlies he chooses to play for Australia because his mother is Australian.

Harry Kewell, who is a Liverpool winger, He made his debut for Australia at the age of 17, in 1996, and played with that team in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. Kuol submitted his candidacy for Graham Arnold, Australia coach, to include him in the list for Qatar 2022.

Mitchell Duke headed in the 54th minute Australia’s first goal in the first match New Zealand played in front of their home crowd for almost five years. Australia will participate for the fifth consecutive time in a World Cup and in Qatar 2022 it is included in group xx, along with France, Denmark and Tunisia.
