The rider from Molina de Segura wins both races and commands himself in the MX-2 category
The motocross party was more intense than ever at the Los Conejos circuit yesterday. More than 15,000 fans forced the local police to work hard to control the flow of motocross enthusiasts flocking to the venue. The hills surrounding the track’s 2,230m route were overflowing, the car parks were all full and many fans had to park a mile away and walk on.
The Molina motocross, which celebrated its 43rd edition yesterday, remains the sporting event with the most attraction for the Molina fans because of its uniqueness. It is a free event that has a firm behind it, such as El Corte Inglés, that has made it their own and has managed to give it remarkable visibility.
Escudería Carlos, responsible for the organization, moved practice from Saturday to Sunday morning, speeding up the test and lowering the drivers’ costs. At 10:00 am the engines started roaring with the MX-1 test. The totanero Antonio José Pallarés was the great dominator, he won both sleeves with authority and took the prize, for Omar Martos who could do nothing to avoid it.
The most challenging category was the MX-125, in which Bruno Puerto climbed to the top of the podium without winning any heat. He finished second in both. José Manuel Zambudio won the first but failed in the second when he fell and couldn’t get back, giving the Aspe rider the win.
The star race, the MX-2, arrived around 11 a.m. Fans wanted to see local rider Antonio Gallego Ramos, who faced two chic rivals yesterday, such as Onteniente rider Edgar Esteban and Alicante-based Norwegian Shayne Rompelberg. The Molinense came out like a shell and on the first jump he took the first position. People applauded and waved as the Molinense passed at every turn. From the third round it was a mass bath and Antonio Gallego decorated himself with all kinds of jumps. His rivals couldn’t follow him and only saw Molina de Segura win the first moto. In the second he repeated, with insurmountable differences in the first two rounds.
Due to the plethora of tests scheduled yesterday, the public was often lost. In MX-3, Pedro Coronel, at the wheel of his KTM, defeated Jonathan Plasencia and Sergio Valverde, who finished second and third.
In MX-4, Borja Múgica, with a Kawasaki, took first place in a test that was very close. José Ortuño was second in both races and a creditable second place. Third was Rafa Segura. The MX-5 category was won by Jose Ramón Espinosa, ahead of Antonio Guillén. In MXAF, José Javier Corbalán was level with Sergio Gázquez, but for the fastest lap it was the first to take the trophy. In MXAF-1, one of the tests with the most entrants, Pedro Alcázar dominated from start to finish.
In the MX-50, Ginés Alacid was the winner. In MX-65, Iñaki Tolosa climbed to the top of the podium. The last category was the MX-85, where Mario Vélez finished first and second in both races. Javi Salinas was penalized for finishing third in the first round. Velez won by 47 points.
