Major League Soccer, which has previously suspended players inadvertently, such as Felipe Hernández, Andy Polo or Jesse González, suspended indefinitely on Friday the midfielder of Austin FC Cecilio Dominguez pending investigation into alleged “misconduct off the field”.
Dominguez may not have participated in any group activity while the investigation continues. MLS did not detail what triggered the suspension.
The news came a day after Dominguez, a native of Paraguay, got his green card and will no longer hold an international roster spot starting next season.
Dominguez has played in four of Austin’s five games this season and scored a couple of goals in the team’s opening season win against FC Cincinnati. In 38 games (33 starts) for Austin in 2021 and 2022, Dominguez scored nine goals with four assists.
