French midfielder Boubacar Kamara has been ruled out of the World Cup in Qatar with a knee injury, Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard said on Friday.
Kamara, 22, who made three appearances for the French national team after making his debut in June, was injured on September 16 in Aston Villa’s 1-0 win over Southampton in the Premier League.
“Unfortunately Bouba will be out until after the World Cup, so it’s a big blow,” Gerrard told a news conference ahead of Aston Villa’s game at Leeds on Sunday.
He fell on Deschamps’ latest list
Didier Deschamps, the France coach, called up Kamara for two recent Nations League games against Austria and Denmark, but he was later dropped from the squad due to this injury.
The loss of Kamara, who was signed by Aston Villa after terminating his contract with Marseille on June 30, is the latest setback in his preparations for the World Cup before making his debut on November 22 against Australia. Denmark and Tunisia complete the group.
