The Spanish Enrique Moresecond in the last Vuelta a España, won this Saturday at Emilia’s twistdefeating the favorite Slovenian Tadej Pogacar at the height of Bologna, a week before defending his Giro di Lombardia title.
Mas (Movistar), 27, started alone on the fifth and final climb of the demanding Santuario de la Madonna di San Luca (2.1 km at 10% average speed, 18% maximum).
Pogacar, whose UAE team controlled the 198km race for a long time, had to give up the fight against the Spaniard’s energetic pedaling and had to settle for second place ahead of Italy’s Domenico Pozzovivo (Intermarché).
Alexander ValverdeMas’s Movistar teammate, finished fourth just a week before his Giro de Lombardía career ended.
