Lewis Hamilton can continue to wear his nose piercing at the Singapore Grand Prix for Medical reasonsbut his team was fined 25,000 euros on Sunday for not informing the trustees.
Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA, Mercedes was allowed for submitting a form indicating that the British pilot removed all his jewelry and drilling according to the rules.
“In fact, Hamilton removed the hole before the race. The team assumed, without asking Hamilton, that he followed or would follow the same procedure for this event,” FIA officials said in a statement about their decision.
“The commissioners have accepted that the notification error in this case is accidental or intentional. In these situations, we impose a fine of 25,000 euros to the team”, refers to the text.
The seven-time world champion, who will start third on the grid on Sunday, told reporters that wear the jewelry again on the advice of doctors after an infection develops when it is removed.
“I’ve been wearing jewelery and my nose piercing for years and we had this ruckus earlier in the year,” Hamilton said, referring to the FIA’s decision to strictly enforce this season’s rule banning drivers from driving with the jewelry.
