the president of Indonesia, Joko Widodosaid on Tuesday that world soccer’s governing body, the FIFAcan help address the management of the sport in the country, after discussing the issue with the president of football’s highest body, Gianni Infantino, after the deadly stampede.
He also ordered a full audit of stadiums across the country and told reporters that the investigation into the stampede in East Java that killed at least 131 people on Saturday should be concluded as soon as possible.
“I want to know the root of the problem that caused this tragedy so that we can come up with the best solution. I will order the Minister of Public Works to conduct an audit of all the stadiums used by the (soccer) league,” he said as he left a hospital in Malang, where one of the deadliest disasters in football history took place last Saturday.
