Gakpo, at Haaland’s level, once again decided for PSV

Cody Gakpo extended his scoring streak this season to join Norwegian Erling Haaland as the most decisive player in Europe and give his team, PSV Eindhoven, a victory at Heerenveen (0-1) that kept them in third place in the Eredivisie, two points behind surprising AZ Alkmaar.

Gakpo, born in Eindhoven 23 years ago, scored a great goal at the Abe Lenstra Stadion. It was in the 75th minute, with the match even. He took the ball, combined with Joey Veerman and with power and skill, he found space to fire a shot that hit the post past goalkeeper Andries Noppert.

It was the ninth goal for the Dutch international in the Eredivisie, to which should be added three in the Europa League and one with his team in the Nations League. Thirteen goals and ten assists highlight one of the sensations of the season.

Comparable to Erling Haaland so far this year. Both participated in the same goal for their team. The Norwegian scored twenty and provided three goal passes. 23 too.

Gakpo’s fine form has established Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side as contenders for the Eredivisie title. They are third in the standings, one point behind Ajax and two behind leaders AZ Alkmaar.

AZ continues to lead

Reigning champions Ajax defeated Volendam on Saturday (2-4) but lost last week after drawing against Go Ahead Eagles. AZ led by Pascal Jansen did not waste the opportunity and now defeated Utrecht (1-2) to consolidate their status as leaders.

The Alkmaar team left the Galgenwaard stadium with three points thanks to goals from Myron Van Bredrode and Japan’s Yukinari Sugawara which gave them a third straight victory.

AZ are unbeaten with seven wins and two draws in nine games. They also dominated their group in the Europa League, where they counted their three games for wins.

Feyenoord, three points behind AZ in fourth in an even Eredivisie, beat Utrecht 2-0 with goals from Kokcu and Hancko.
