Regional women’s football makes history in the highest category

Alhama CF El Pozo. Coach Randri García hopes to benefit from a highly motivated team that knows how to empower itself to fight for sustainability

Women’s football in the region of Murcia is lucky this season. Alhama El Pozo, an unassuming team from a city of just over 20,000 inhabitants, sees each of his wishes fulfilled, mainly to be able to travel with dignity through the highest tier of Spanish football after achieving the glory of promotion last season led by Randri García.

The jump in category was held in Pozoblanco (Córdoba), but Alhama CF ElPozo didn’t even need to score points, as Cacereño’s (2-2) draw in Albacete mathematically resulted in Azulonas’ promotion. And the party broke loose, the party expected by women’s football and which delivered the historic feat of placing a team from the Murcia region in the highest tier of national football for the first time.

With promotion under his belt, it was time to plan the new season in the First Division League F. Over the summer, the entity announced up to eleven extensions: Laura Martínez in goal; the club’s captain, Judith Caravaca, Lena Pérez and Erika Sastre as centre-backs; Sara Rubio and Nerea Vicente on the wings; Daniela Arques, Mariela Coronel and Andrea Carid in the middle of the field; and Marina Martí and Helena Torres as references in the attack.

It was time to strengthen the team with the commitment of great players who combined experience and youth. The sports management, aware of the need to put together a squad that could meet expectations a priori, reinforced the goal with Noelia Gil, from Valencia.

The defense center was completed with the incorporation of Lucía Ramírez, from Seville; two reinforcements for the defensive bands such as Carmen Fresneda, of Osasuna, and Patricia Hidalgo of Rayo Vallecano. In midfield, Randri can choose to field players like Zaira Flores from Villarreal or Licía Martínez from Albacete.

And finally, on the offensive plot, there are three additions to make the difference: Raquel Morcillo, a winger from Granada, Kuki from Eibar and Jade Boho, a Spanish-Equatorial Guinea striker from Servette, Switzerland.

This is an important season to clearly establish some foundations in the elite. Randri’s players are aware of the demands of a category that is greatly appreciated every year and whose quality and competitiveness are more than proven.

The arbitration strike has tarnished the debut of Alhama CF El Pozo, who knows how important it is to find regularity in the game so that the results keep coming. So far they have not been able to score, but there is blind faith in this team.
