Andrea Agnelli, president of Juventus, ratified coach Massimiliano Allegri on Tuesday until the end of the season after the defeat against Israeli Maccabi Haifa (2-0) which completely upset the classification of the Turin team for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
“It is not a question of a single person. It is a group question at the moment and we have to start again from here. There are no individual responsibilities. Juventus always take stock at the end of the year, it is difficult for me to -think of a change in the middle of the course, Allegri is the coach and he will stay,” Agnelli told Sky Sport Italia’s microphones.
“I’m ashamed, I’m angry”
“We know there is shame, we have to apologize to the fans who are fighting to come out on the street at this moment and we understand it. It was a difficult night, one of the most difficult moments. It is time to take responsibility. I’m here for that and also because I’m ashamed of what’s happening. I’m very angry, but I also know that football is a team sport,” said the Juventus president.
Juve need to beat Benfica and PSG to maintain their chances of qualifying for the knockout stage of the Champions League or, at the very least, score points to secure third place which allows them to play in the Europa League.
Allegri forbids resignation
For his part, Allegri decided he was thinking of resigning. “Never, when a challenge becomes more difficult, it is better. You have to come out of it with character and passion,” said the Italian coach.
“We are not talking about technical or tactical issues here, it is a matter of heart and passion, we play too much individually,” he said.
Cuadrado appealed to the unit and defended the technician
Meanwhile, Colombian player Juan Cuadrado appealed for the unity of the team and the fans. “This is the only way to get out of this situation. We have a chance, we will go to the end and see what happens,” he said and also defended Allegri: “I think the coach is doing everything to find a solution. Juve not only Mister, the whole team, we all need it, especially the most experienced ones. We need to have trust in the team and stick together to get ahead”.
