Phil Michaelsonwinner of six titles of Grand Slamreiterated that he likes his decision to join LIV Golf Series. “I see the PGA Tours in a downward trend and LIV Golf on the rise,” said the American, one of the golfers playing in the new, millionaire and controversial Arab Super League.
The LIV Golf Series, which has been running since June, has attracted some of the biggest players with huge prize pools, who are no longer eligible to play in PGA Tour tournaments because of their decision to switch to the ‘rebel’ circuit.
Mickelson said that during his best years the best players in the world competed on the PGA Tour, but he said that will never happen again.
“I think in the future you have to pick a side. You have to pick which side you think is going to be successful,” Mickelson told reporters before heading to the LIV Golf Invitational Series in Jeddah.
“I really believe I’m on the winning side of how things will evolve and shape over the next few years for professional golf,” Mickelson said.
Last month, the PGA Tour accused LIV Golf of using antitrust laws “like a club” and breaching its contracts with players in a counterclaim to a lawsuit brought by the Saudi-backed circuit.
In a lawsuit filed in August, LIV Golf, Mickelson and 10 other players accused the PGA Tour of antitrust violations.
“Until both parties sit down and have a conversation and figure something out, both parties will continue to change and evolve,” Mickelson added.
“And I see LIV Golf trending up, I see the PGA TOUR trending down, and I like the side I’m on. I like the way they engage with us and listen to our decisions.” American.
