RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada will have 111 teams

Date:

The 57th edition of the RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada will be held from October 20 to 23 in the region of Tarragona with 111 registered teams, among which is the new world rally champion, the 22-year-old Finn Calle Rovanpera (Finland), after winning the title in the last Rally of New Zealand.

“We will fight to continue being a three-star rally for the FIA, the highest rating, thanks to somehow offset the carbon footprint we leave behind,” he explained. Joseph Mateuthe director of the RACC, at the presentation of the test this Thursday in Barcelona.

Of the 111 registered teams, 67 belong to the World Rally Championship, which will compete in its penultimate round of the 2022 World Championship in Tarragona. “Every year there is great interest from the area councils for the rally to pass through their towns. It is a success of public-private organization”, Mateu assured.

Salou will be the town in charge of the start and finish of the rally podiums on Thursday 20th October and Sunday 23rd, respectively. And, in between, there will be three stages. The first, on Friday, will be the longest. It will have four unaided sections repeated twice: Els Omells-Maldà, Serra de la Llena, Les Garrigues Altes and Riba-roja.

Saturday, on the other hand, will have only three timed sections that will be held already in 2021: Savallà, Querol-Les Pobles and Montmell, in addition to the urban special that will be held in the afternoon in Salou. The rally will end on Sunday in Riudecanyes, which will experience the final timed section with the Wolf Power Stage, which will award points to the first five classifieds. Previously, there would have been a Pratdip section.

“We have an ideal territory, a very beautiful setting like the Costa Daurada. We will do the test as much as we can at this stage in Tarragona. In addition, we have excellent infrastructures and the participation of the institutions”, considered RACC director. And he added that they have two commitments: “to safety and to improving the environment.”

In the 2021 edition, still reduced by sanitary measures due to the coronavirus pandemic, the impact of the rally on the territory is 40 million euros. On the other hand, the television broadcast will reach 70 countries, creating a global media impact for the area.
