Niels Giffey: “I can shoot and defend, but above all play for the team”

Date:

The German is presented as a new UCAM Murcia CB player after his debut with victory in Valencia

Niels Giffey had just two days to meet his new teammates and make his debut in La Fonteta against Valencia Basket, but the German played a relevant role in the university team’s victory. An express edit to which Aíto García Reneses is largely to blame. “It had to be a very quick adjustment. But the fact that I trained with a Spanish coach like Aíto has allowed me to adapt much faster to the systems and the way of playing that are in Spain,” he said in his presentation on Tuesday.

His knowledge of the game and reading the game helped many of his teammates to score. “At many moments I saw that the Valencia defense was very open and I saw spaces to help my teammates and play fast. That’s what I can bring to the team. I can shoot, I can defend, but above all I can play for the team. Make the rest of the players happy and bring my experience with them,” explains Giffey.

One of the teammates with whom he understood best was Artem Pustovy, for whom he facilitated situations of advantage in various actions of the game. “He must be a great player for us. The truth is that he is a very important player for us. Not only is he great, he is also very talented and it is very easy to play with him,” said the German.

Giffey will replace one of the key players in the squad, James Anderos. And it’s clear that he will use all his experience to alleviate his absence as best he can: “I think James will remain a leader in the team because what he tells us and helps us in the locker room is very important, and I’m on the job. to try to bring my energy to the team and contribute my experience at key moments of the match». The German player likes the squad that UCAM Murcia has put together: “It’s very good. We have very talented guards and players who can be decisive. It’s a very complete team.”

After a very difficult year personally, Niels Giffey regains his smile and enthusiasm at UCAM Murcia CB: «Last season was difficult for me. I had several injuries, Covid… and the truth is it was quite difficult and I have been waiting for the Eurobasket to show the teams what I am capable of. This opportunity presented itself and the truth is that I am very happy to play for UCAM Murcia, in the Endesa League and play an important role. This Saturday at 6 p.m. he can make his debut for his new fans at the Palacio de los Deportes.
