Now, on first free practice of the United States GP (9:00 pm/DAZN F1), at Austin, Alex Palou will make his F1 Grand Prix debut replacing Daniel Ricciardowho will return to the wheel of his McLaren in the second practice.
The new F1 regulations oblige all teams to give two young drivers a chance each year from this course, and among the two chosen by McLaren is the 2021 IndyCar champion, the driver from Sant Antoni de Vilamajor (Barcelona), 25, who will do his first official F1 training today.
The opportunity came to him after Alex did a few days of testing with McLaren in Barcelona and recently in Austria, leaving a very good feeling. Chip Ganassi’s IndyCar driver will try to shine with his own light.
In FP1 today they will also drive Robert Shwartzman (Ferrari), Logan Sergeant (Williams), Theo Pouchaire (Alfa Romeo) and Italian Antonio Giovinazzi (Haas). Alongside Alex, there will be a total of five drivers from outside the current grid competing in Free Practice 1.
