Russian Daniil Medvedev, the first favorite of the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, defeated the Georgian on Wednesday in straight sets. Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-2 and 6-2, and qualified for the round of 16.
In the first set, Medvedev submitted Basilashvili (94) so fast that he lost twice.
Medvedev, who at the age of 26 is the fourth best player in the world, did not brake in the second set either, conceding only two more games to the Georgian (6-2) and closing the match within one hour.
The Russian, who had to leave the tournament Astana in the semifinals against Novak Djokovic, confirmed his status as the favorite in Vienna and will face the Austrian in the round of 16 Dominic Thiemwho defeated the American Tommy Paul in the first round.
This is the first game for the Muscovite, who lives in Monte Carlo, after becoming the father of a girl, just after leaving Astana on the run. Officially, because of a muscle injury, but maybe it was because the birth was carried.
