Neil Daphne has revealed how he replaced Alicante Airria after becoming the first world darts champion in Northern Ireland.
The emotional draw made history when he defeated France’s Thibaut Tricol 6-5 in his first dramatic first WDF Men’s World Cup Final on Sunday night.
But while he was earning 50,000 in Ballyclare’s woodworking pocket, his moments in the sun became pricey after he and his wife planned to take a short break in the sun.

“Don’t even talk to me,” Daphne smiled. “We talked about hopping on a flight to Alicante tomorrow and going to Benidorm for a few days.
In return (I decided) my management to go to Liverpool, where we will perform tomorrow night.
Then on Tuesday morning we go to Airdre and on Tuesday evening we do an exhibition in Airdre. You got me in trouble now, because my wife doesn’t know! “
In addition to last-minute travel changes, his daughter Hill’s 18th-anniversary title made a special occasion for the board of directors of Surrey’s famous Lakeside Country Club.
“My wife and daughter were there, but they’ve been outside since point two because they couldn’t watch,” Duff told YouTube Online Darts.
“I’m totally over the moon. I know I expected I’d be here, but I don’t think I was really preparing myself for the feeling when it happened.
Duff, who has worked on construction sites since the age of 15, is pursuing a potential trip to an eligible school where he will seek to secure a permit for the PDC Tour.
“I want to go and try it,” he said. All the best players in the country are fighting for a card and I want to prove myself.
“I’m 50 in July, so I’ll probably go on some adult tours.” “Listen, there are options, in addition to the work on display.”
Previous winners of the WDF World Cup – or the BDO Crown as it was previously known – have competed in the prestigious Grand Slam at Darts and Duff wants to follow suit.
“I would be glad to be in it,” he said, “and I would be glad to be in it.” “I was happy to receive it. Nice to meet the PDC people.”
On the first agenda is that flight to Airdre.
