The Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka debuted with a victory this Monday against the Tunisian Ounce Jabeur in Fort Worth WTA Finals (Texas, USA). After Maria Sakkari’s first victory over Jessica Pegula by 7-6(6) and 7-6(4), Sabalenka won an even match against the Tunisian that reached the third set and was decided by 6-3, 6-7(5) and 7-5.
It was a blistering start from Jabeur, who quickly went up 3-1, taking serve from his rival. He showed excellent tennis, achieved impressive points with very complex angles to which the Belarusian could not respond.
Despite this, Sabalenka fought her back and threatened to match her, taking the score to 5-3 against her and showing marked improvement. Jabeur would seal the first set with a final 6-3.
The Belarusian’s good moment had a continuation in the second set and he opened it with a resounding 3-0, despite his dominance they forced him to 5-4, and even with a serve ball in his favor he could not seal it . The match went to a tie-break which he saved in the last balls (7-5) and forced a third set.
The third period of the match was more even and offered an impressive comeback from Sabalenka, who was down 2-4 to take it to 5-4 in three games directly prevailing in the Tunisian service. He managed to close the game in the last (7-5) and joined Sakkari, the other European, as the leader of his group.
The news is also outside the court, at the venue of the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth (Texas), which has a capacity for more than 12,000 spectators in its tennis setup. The attendance at the first doubles match was very small and throughout the day there was no significant crowd in the singles matches.
