the Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) faces the final stage of the season-ending Rally Japan, with a four-second advantage over Welshman Elfin Evans (Toyota) where he had a tough fight throughout the second day.
Evans led Neuville in two of the morning’s three tarmac speed tests, increasing his lead to 5.9sec by mid-stage.
But the Brit lost his pace after the morning break and Neuville attacked Lake Mikawako and passed the Welshman in a closing Okazaki City extra special to end the day by 4.0sec.
With Estonian Ott Tanak (Hyundai) in third position but 39.9 seconds behind the leaderEverything seems predisposed for Neuville and Evans to go head-to-head for the title on the final day.
The already world champion, from the New Zealand Rally, the Finn Kalle Rovanoera (Toyota) is not racing and is in eleventh positionin 6:41.7 minutes from Neuville.
