Milan got a breather thanks to an own goal from Fiorentina

Date:

Suffering, in the 91st minute, but Milan, current champions of Serie A, achieved an important victory this Sunday against Fiorentina on the last day before the break for the Qatar 2022 World Cup (in which Italy will not participate) by beating Fiorentina (2-1) at San Siro. Thus, Stefano Pioli’s team closed the 2nd year, 8 points behind the current leader of Serie A, the unstoppable Napoli led by Luciano Spalletti. Waiting to see what Lazio (3rd to 3rd in red and black) will do this Sunday against Juventus.

The afternoon started well for a Milan who went ahead thanks to a goal from Rafael Leao, who will participate in the World Cup, in his case in Portugal. It was minute 2 when the Portuguese player took advantage of a good pass from Olivier Giroud to make a run and score with his right foot against a Fiorentina team that had gone 3 games without defeat. Leao defeated Milenkovic and Terracciano.

If the red and black fans promised them joy, an organized Fiorentina showed them they had no reason to. The violas played a great game, with a star Sofyan Amrabat in the middle, and they might even win. Instead, they lost. A heavy blow after his good meeting.

Antonin Barak leveled for Fiorentinaafter a turn and assisted by Jonathan Ikone, in 28′, after a long possession of the Violas, who in 8′, through the intervention of Biraghi, hit the ball on the post.

From then on, Milan could not decide the match in their favor until the 91′, when many red and black fans had lost hope. Previously, Leao missed a golden opportunity. An excellent Fikayo Tomori saved two balls (one on the line in 89′) which could have given Milan the win. Gareth Southgate, England coach, left Tomori off the list for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

But, since the game is already on discount, Nikola Milenkovic puts the ball into his own goal. After a cross from Aster Vranckx, Petro Terracciano (Fiorentina’s goalkeeper) made a mistake and Milenkovic scored an own goal. The violas claimed that Terracciano was obstructed by Rebic, but VAR awarded the goal.
