Andrey Rublev, 25 years old and world number 7, made a move to Daniel Medvedev, 26 years old and nº 5. After four consecutive defeats against his Russian compatriot, the Spanish student Fernando Vicente has chained two consecutive wins. He was better in Cincinnati 2021, he went one step further by winning the derby played at the ATP Finals in Turin 2022.
Rublev fell to the floor of the Apparently Alpitour after closing out a gutsy victory by 6-7 (7), 6-3 and 7-6 (7) in two and a half hours of a game with many ups and downs, the unexpected script changed because of Medvedev’s stubbornness to make up ground even while performing below your friend.
On television, Rublev reiterated his message of reconciliation since Russia invaded Ukraine. “Peace, peace, peace. That’s all we need.” Peace, peace, peace, that’s all we need.”

Medvedev took a 2-5 lead in the opening round and two set points to reach the tiebreak, where Rublev rallied for another five set points, leading 6-2. The Monte Carlo-dwelling Muscovite faced those seven points with the same indifference with which he saved four ‘match’ balls in the final ‘tiebreak’.
Until Rublev asserted his superiority, he was more complete with his punches. He almost missed, but it wasn’t broken. He kept order despite his explosive character, sealing a crucial victory for him.
The final set was very level, with two points of 38 and 33 shots during the ‘tiebreak’. It was tiring but exciting for the winner, a Rublev who reached the ATP Finals for the third time, where he never got past the group stage.

Medvedev, the 2020 champion and 2021 finalist, scratched a set, and in a league format it could be a lot in the event of ties.
This Monday night the Red Group will complete the rivalry between the two tournament champions, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic. The winner will face Rublev on Wednesday. The loser will have an appointment with Medvedev.
