The FIFA It fully defines the different steps in case two or more teams are tied on points at the end of the group stage and where the first two classified from the eight groups will advance to the round of 16.
In a first step the FIFA will consider three criteria to break that tie. First the highest number of points scored in all group matches; second, the highest goal difference in all group matches and third, the highest number of goals scored in all group matches.
If this tie persists, even after these three previous criteria have been applied, there is a second step where another three new criteria are applied to break this tiebreaker. First, the highest number of points scored in group matches played between the teams in question. Second is the highest goal difference in group matches played between the teams in question and third is the highest number of goals scored in group matches played between the teams in question.
Each yellow card is worth one less point and red ones are up to four
The next criterion to be applied, if this parity is to be maintained, concerns the yellow and red cards shown to each team. Each yellow card is less than 1 point; three in the case of a red card as a result of two yellows. When the red card is direct, it means 4 less points.
