Alonso, about Alpine: “I’m not satisfied, it’s time for a new challenge”

Date:

The moment I’ve been waiting for has arrived Fernando Alonso. The Asturian will live this weekend his last Grand Prix with Alpineteam where he returned to Formula 1 to fight the last two F1 courses. With them he regained his best competitive level in terms of riding, but it was not reflected in the results that the man from Oviedo wanted. The Spaniard regained his best form, but at the wheel of a car that is always far from victories and at a team where in 2022 he realized he didn’t share his ambition, an element he said was key when he signed for Aston Martin in 2022.

The man from Oviedo will live up to his last date in blue this weekend and the Tuesday November 22 must pilot for the first time Aston Martinone of this course, in a Pirelli test, which will be your first contact with your new work team. Previously, he will be fighting to get a good result in Abu Dhabi that will allow him to defend fourth place in Constructors’ World Cup that Alpine has, and if possible, he will fight to overtake his teammate Esteban Ocon in eighth place in the World Championship, even if the task is complicated, because Esteban has 5 more points and to beat him he has to finish the 7th at least and so Ocon can’t score.

For now, the Asturian doesn’t think he can face the Abu Dhabi weekend with the same weapons he had in Brazil, where his car has good race pace, even at the level of the Ferraris. “I don’t think I can repeat the race in Brazil here, but I hope we can fight in the middle of the group.”he pointed out.

Regarding his farewell to Alpine, the man from Oviedo is clear about how his feelings have changed in these two years: “Two years ago I had some concerns when I came back, last year I was not convinced and this year I’m not satisfied. It is time for a new challenge.” Clear words from Fernando. The Spaniard was very happy with his personal performance, but he was not satisfied with the conformism of the French team or the lack of ambition shown by the team to continue development, something that Alonso decided to leave.

In this sense, Fernando is looking forward to his new phase at Aston Martin, making it clear that he is changing teams with the sole aim of pursuing his desire to become champion again. “Winning the title is what motivates me every day. I still think a third World Cup will be possible at some point. I wouldn’t go on if I don’t feel like we can have a chance, be it one or ten percent. I’m continuing because I think we’ll have a chance.”he commented.

“Maybe not next year. But who knows what may happen in the future.” he added, sure that with Aston Martin he could “build something together and be a world champion one day”

“I wouldn’t rule out the return of Vettel”

This weekend will be goodbye. Not just because of Alonso at Alpine, but because of that of Vettel, Ricciardo, Mick Schumacher and Latifi of F1. The Spaniard shared a press conference with what is one of his great rivals on the track, Sebastian Vettel, a great protagonist this weekend, and the Spaniard did not hesitate to offer some kind words to him .

“Seb? I wouldn’t rule out his return to F1…”, he commented. “It will be strange to see Vettel at the start of next season. We fight a lot, but always with the utmost mutual respect. My career is linked to him, the result is often in his favor, but our stories and our names are connected. I haven’t asked him about Aston Martin yet, I will on Sunday…”, he said about it.
