Castagne: “The Hazard from a few years ago is still here”

Date:

The Belgian defender Timothy CastagneI am convinced that his countryman and captain, Eden Hazard, will show in Qatar the details of the football with which he impressed the world a few years ago because his quality is “still here.”

“The Belgians want to see again the Eden of a few years ago. As players, we see during training that this Eden is still here, but we know very well that coming back without playing as much is not easy,” he said at a press conference.

“He needs some time and I think the 60 minutes he played (against Egypt on Friday, which ended in a 2-1 Belgian defeat) will be useful,” he continued.

“That’s why he will try to improve in the tournament. Not immediately, he won’t be amazing in the first match, but step by step, he can grow and improve.”

Castagne, who started the said friendly against Egypt where the defeat cast doubt on the Belgian expedition, will make his debut at Qatar 2022 against Canada next Wednesday. The winger is committed to turning the page.

“Communication. We still have a lot to talk about with each other. Also, we are not in the right places at different stages of the match; and if this happens, the game will be complicated”, he appreciated.

In addition, Castagne made sure that he will face this World Cup as a personal revenge after a blow to the head, which caused a double skull fracture, made him miss the last Euro Cup.

“I want to enjoy this World Cup to the fullest. I came back with more motivation because I didn’t finish my first big tournament with the national team. I remember immediately asking the doctor if I could continue. I didn’t see my face then. I was very disappointed because I knew I was out of the game for the rest of the tournament,” he said.
