Irish Premier League fans choose the former club legends they would like to re-sign

Date:

To sign two former club legends to strengthen the Irish League squad, who would you turn to?

Some cult players have decorated the league for decades and left their mark on Northern Irish football.

From goalkeepers champions to defensive midfielders to offensive spells to midfielders, these players have lit up the field across the country with their talent, ingenuity and winning mentality.

These are the names that will stand the test of time, many of which are already etched into the gods of the greatness of the Irish League.

We recently asked Irish Premier League fans to pick some former club legends who would be happy to sign again.

There were some excellent options.

Graham said he’d welcome Billy Keske and Jim Claire back to Glentoran, while Linfield fan Charlie picked the perfect pair of Glenn Ferguson and Peter Thompson.

Crusaders supporter Paul went with current Northern Ireland players Stuart Dallas and Gavin White, whose impressive performances with Cruz led to their moves across the water.

Collieren fan Jonny went to former goalkeeper Stephen Carson and Tony Gorman, while Melvin also went to Carson with prolific striker Rory Patterson.

Wayne went to Ferguson and Noel Bailey in Linfield, while Portadon fans were delighted to see Martin Russell and Joey Cunningham at Shamrock Park.

Glentoran fan Duncan chose Glenn Little and Jim Claire as the two people he’d want back in the Oval Office, while Cliftonville fan Shawn chose George McCullan and Peter Murray.

Reds native Patrick said he would welcome Tim McCann and Marty Tapp from the 1998 title-winning side, while Linfield fan Darren chose John Easton and Pat Fanlon.

Ports fan Steven Joy Cunningham and Stevie Quinn chose the pair, adding that the pair “make up any team in the Irish champions!”

The Blues fan Paul was also delighted to see revolver Peter Thompson at Windsor with former goalkeeper Alan Manus.

Josh Banting picked George McMullan and Barry Johnston at Cliftonville, and he also introduced Liam Boyce, but he didn’t pick him because he “still plays at the highest level”.

Neil took charge of Spike Ferguson and Gary Beals at Linfield, while Neil picked Billy Murray and Martin McGaha.

Kylie fondly remembers Jamie Claire and Gary McCartney in Glentoran, while Dale, a Cliftonville fan, wanted to bring Liam Boyce and Ryan Kathine back into solitude.

Ballymena United fan Robert chose Dessie Loughery and Chris Walker as the cult players he would love to watch, while Bill Carland and Michael Guy chose Larne.

Cruise fan Malcolm named Glenn Dunlop and Martin Murray as his former legends, while Seaview native chose Alan Dunlop and Kirk Hunter.

Yamina fan Kathleen chose former captains Alan Jenkins and Jim Irwin, while Lewis is back with Linfield legends Jackie Melbourne and Tommy Dixon.

But who would you like to return to your club? Let us know in the comments…
