Ilkay Gundogan laments Germany’s defeathis team, against Japan in their World Cup debut in Qatar (1-2), and he attributed it to the many facilities they provided to the Japanese attack.
“With the second goal we might have made the situation easier for them. That can’t happen in a World Cup. Together we dominated, we avoided a goalWe had a lot of offensive chances, but I think we left them a lot of space in the last period. It shouldn’t have happened,” Gundogan said.
Gundogan hinted that Germany “didn’t manage to raise the bar” and that, although he believes they didn’t play badly, “they lacked conviction in possession, to keep the ball and suggest solutions.”
“In the second half we abused the long balls, we’ve lost the party thread. We lost the ball too quickly,” said the Manchester City midfielder.
