Morocco won a World Cup match this Sunday after 24 years. And he did nothing but show off his brilliance against Belgium, third in the last edition, Russia 2018 (0-2). It’s not just that the North African team won but how they did it, with what greater efficiency. How unknown this Belgian team of Eden Hazard, Kevin de Bruyne and so many stars compared to the one that caused a sensation in the previous World Cup. Sabiri and Aboukhlal came true for Morocco a historic victory against the team led by Roberto Martínez.
Morocco, mainly guided by a stellar Hakim Ziyech but nevertheless in a choral triumph, staged an extraordinary fight. Belgium was a bit better in the first half than against Canada (when only a goal from Michy Batshuayi allowed them to save the start of the tournament by winning 1-0), but they found themselves which was soundly beaten by the Moroccan team in the second.
Batshuayi himself had Belgium’s best chance in the first half against Morocco’s many creations, led by Walid Regragui. The referee César Ramos nullified on the edge of the break a little free kick to Ziyech for offside by Roman Saiss.
The second half is a walk through Morocco. Dries Mertens came on at xxx and, in a nice move, with a nice cut, he starred in a good chance for Belgium, but they were just a few on Sunday for the ‘red devils’.
And finally the great game and the dominance of an impressive Morocco found its reward in Sabiri’s goal. It was running in the 73rd minute when Ziyech helped the Sampdoria midfielder and he connected a shot at the near post that beat Courtois. Joy overflows with Moroccan fans.
Robert Martínez, in his worst moment since taking charge of Belgium, brought on Romelu Lukaku, who was coming off an injury, but neither he nor anyone else raised the third of the 2018 World Cup. 0-2 for Morocco after another great play by Ziyech with a back pass to his teammate.
Bono, goalkeeper for Morocco and Sevilla, was in the eleven and in the anthems, but he was not feeling well and in the end Munir played.
Morocco has 4 points in this group F and Belgium, 1. On the same Sunday Croatia-Canada will be held.
