Allegri continued on the Juventus bench

Date:

Massimiliano Allegri will continue as Juventus coach despite the resignation of president Andrea Agnelli and the board of directors, according to John Elkann, director of the Exor holding company that controls the Italian club.

The board of directors, including Andrea Agnelli, his deputy Pavel Nedved and chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene, resigned on Monday as prosecutors and Italian market regulator Consob investigated Juve for non- alleged irregularities related to player transfers and salaries.

“We are counting on him (Allegri) and the whole team to keep winning, as they have shown in recent games, keeping our highest goal on the field,” guaranteed Elkann.

Allegri, focused on the field

For his part, in a brief statement, Allegri said his only focus is on the pitch and the team while thanking Elkann for his support.

“It is always very positive to feel the closeness of the shareholders, for this reason I thank John Elkann for these words”, highlighted Allegri.

Allegri won five Serie A titles, four Italian Cups and two Italian Super Cups, as well as leading Juve to the Champions League final twice in his first spell in charge of Juve between 2014 and 2019 before returning to take the reins in 2021.

Friend Agnelli

“In these years of work, passion and success, I always count on the support of Andrea Agnelli, with whom I am friends, who will not be interrupted at the end of his presidency”, stressed Allegri.

“Andrea and John are reference figures for the world of Juventus, who must remain committed to the daily work on the field to get the results we all want,” he added.

Third-placed Juve won their sixth straight Serie A game ahead of the World Cup. He has 31 points, one more than Lazio, in fourth place, and Inter Milan, fifth, but 10 behind leaders Napoli. Turin team Juventus will resume Serie A on January 4 against Cremonese.
