Viegas, re-elected FIM president, gave the scoop

Date:

the portuguese Jorge Viegas was re-elected President of the FIM during the General Assembly of the International Motorcycling Federation held at the Palacongressi in Rimini. Viegas secured 99% of the votes of the voting delegates of the National Federations present, thus beginning his second consecutive four-year term at the helm of the FIM.

Before becoming FIM President in 2018, Viegas held various roles within the Federation, joining in 1992 as a member of the FIM Promotion Commission; he was then appointed vice president for various terms between 1996 and 2014.

“I am very grateful for the support I have received. The last four years have been an extraordinary journey, made possible only by the incredible team I have worked with. I cannot express enough gratitude for their motivation, presence and friendship, they are truly My family I also have to thank the National Federations and the Continental Unions for the great results we have achieved together, thanks to our shared goals, combined hard work and, above all, great collaboration,” said the Portuguese.

Valentino will return to Yamaha

And in an interview with RAI, the re-elected president gave the scoop when he was asked about Suzuki leaving and Yamaha going from having four to two motorcycles on the 2023 MotoGP grid. “I don’t see this situation well, but I think it’s only for 2023. In 2024 the team of Valentino Rossi (Mooney VR46) will go from Ducati to Yamaha, for now it’s an idea and nothing is confirmed , but I I give news. There will be 6 Ducati and 4 Yamaha”.

In fact, Valentino Rossi did not cut ties with Yamaha after his retirement – he brings them the official merchandising and the Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team is his Moto2 team- despite the fact that he chose Ducati as a jumping partner in MotoGP as team owner.
