Pezzella: “The ‘Dibu’ thing is becoming normal”

Date:

Germán Pezzella recalled the important role of ‘Dibu’ Martínez in the Copa América that Argentina won against Brazil, which he repeated in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup, with two decisive saves in the penalty shootout against the Netherlands, which he ensured finished “being normal” is your starring role.

“Penalties are like that, full of suffering but we are confident in those who kicked and in ‘Dibu’. We faced them with all courage. He ended up doing normal and we all thanked him. Once again he was fundamental. When we needed him , he appears and doesn’t leave us stranded. It’s impressive,” he said in the mixed zone of the Lusail stadium after the pass in the semifinals that will measure them against Croatia.

Pezzella took away the bad taste in which the match ended, after committing a foul in the final act of regulation time that caused the Netherlands to draw. “I honestly believe that it was not a foul. He collided with Paredes and I fell on top of him. I felt bad, he had tremendous poison, but we have to recover.

“These are things that happen on the field but this is football and in these kinds of stages it can happen in a thousand revolutions,” he added.

Pezzella admitted that they entered the game knowing that Brazil had already been eliminated and that Croatia would be their opponent in the semifinals. “We know about Brazil. We watched almost the whole game and in the stadium we learned about extra time and penalties. It shouldn’t have affected the way we approached our game.”

“It is very important to be in the top four in the world but we never stop thinking about that because we want more. This team is always hungry and we will keep fighting for more,” he said.
