Óscar de Marcos, another popular Athletic veteran, shared a squad with Muniain in both the rojiblanco first and second teams in his first year at Lezama. The former striker from Alavés was signed for the first time to play for Bilbao Athletic under the orders of Luis de la Fuente, the current Spanish coach. However, Caparrós saw him in the preseason and chose to make his debut as a lion for the first time in the 2009–10 season.
That campaign, his debut in the First Division 14 seasons ago, De Marcos participated in 19 League games with Athletic, one in the Cup, another in the Super Cup and eight in the Europa League. Other than the KO tournament, he scored his goal in three remaining competitions.
Despite having experienced at an elite level from Lezama, they understood that it was convenient at a certain moment in the campaign for De Marcos to step down to play for Luis de la Fuente’s Bilbao Athletic. The now Spanish coach lined him up on April 14, 2010 in an away match against Zamora, then coached by Rocky Liceranzu, which ended 3-1 in local favour. Muniain also played in the subsidiary matches.
